A civil lawsuit may involve dispute resolution of the private rights and legal issues between individuals, business entities or non-profit organizations.
A Criminal Action is the procedure by which a person accused of committing a crime is charged and brought to trial. After evidence is presented from the prosecution and defense, a decision is made as to the person’s guilt, and if found guilty the accused is sentenced according to law.
Family law issues include dissolution (divorce), legal separation, child custody and visitation, probate and guardianships, child support, spousal support and domestic violence.
The Juvenile Court is a division of the Sutter Superior Court handling dependency, delinquency and emancipation matters. Adoption and Guardianship cases are handled through Family Court Services.
Sutter County Superior Court has a number of self-help resources to assist self-represented litigants. In addition, there are a number of resources that are available outside the court.
Small claims court is a special court where disputes are resolved quickly and inexpensively.
Traffic Court deals with violations of traffic laws and other minor offenses, such as fishing without a fishing license.

Sutter County Grand Jury Art Contest »

ATTENTION SUTTER COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS!!! If you have a submission for the Sutter County Grand Jury Art Contest and were unable to turn it in by 03/31/20  due to school closures caused by the Covid-19 epidemic - the Sutter County Grand Jury will be accepting entries on Wednesday, April 22 at 463 Second Street, Yuba City, between 11am and 1pm. Please drive to the parking lot in the back of the building where someone will be waiting to take your entry. This will be no-contact with social distancing and safety protocols being followed to keep everyone safe.
