Traffic School Eligibility
1.
You may attend traffic school if you are charged with an infraction violation that carries a DMV point count. You are eligible to attend traffic school only once every 18 months. The time for eligibility is calculated from violation date to violation date. Only one conviction in any 18-month period will be held confidential and not show on your driving record if you complete a traffic violator school program.
2.
If you hold a commercial driver’s license you may be eligible for traffic school if you were cited on or after January 1, 2013 and were NOT driving a commercial vehicle. If you attend and successfully complete traffic school the conviction will be reported to DMV with no point count, but DMV will NOT mask the conviction and it will appear on your driving record.
If you hold a Class A, Class B, or Commercial Class C license you are NOT eligible for traffic school if you were cited before January 1, 2013. Additionally, any person driving a commercial vehicle regardless of the class of their license is NOT eligible for traffic school.
3.
If there are any correctable violations on your citation, the corrections must be received along with your fine and fee before permission to attend traffic school will be granted.
4.
You must pay the full amount of the bail, plus an additional $52 administrative fee, prior to attending traffic school. Once you have paid your fine and nonrefundable traffic school fee, you will have 90 days to attend an approved traffic school.
Do not attend traffic school unless you are eligible and have paid your fine and nonrefundable traffic school fees to the court.
5.
You are responsible for contacting and attending a DMV approved traffic school of your choice. You will be required to pay a separate fee to the traffic school you choose. You may obtain a list of approved licensed traffic schools by visiting DMV at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/olinq2/welcome.do
6.
The traffic school you select will require you to provide a court code in order to electronically send your completion certificate to the correct court. The Sutter County Superior Court code is 51460. In addition to the court code; you will also be required to provide your case number or citation number. The court code, your case number and citation number are all located at the top of your courtesy notice.
7.
Your certificate of completion of traffic school must be transmitted to the court within 90 days of the court having received your total bail plus the $52 administrative fee. NO EXTENSIONS WILL BE GRANTED BEYOND THE INITIAL 90 DAYS.
8.
It is your responsibility to see that your certificate is transmitted to the court. If it is not transmitted within 90 days after payment, your case will be closed and a conviction will be reported to DMV. The $52 administrative fee will not be refunded.
9.
If you are eligible for traffic school, and decide not to attend, your automobile insurance may be adversely affected.
10.
Cases in which a defendant has failed to appear under Penal Code section 1214.1 are not eligible for traffic school unless the civil monetary assessment has been paid in full.
